What To Do When There’s No Hot Water In Your Home

no-hot-waterWe’re pretty sure that you hate cold showers just as much as we do. When the weather is cold and your water heater stops working like it’s supposed to, you’ll surely be left in with a huge annoyance and a great deal of inconvenience. Unfortunately, we cannot avoid such plumbing emergencies. Just like other machines or appliances, water heaters also get damaged at one point. If you want to know what causes this plumbing issue, read on and we’ll help you troubleshoot!

1. Did some of your friends sleep over? Chances are, when your water heater is sized just enough for your household and then people sleep over, you’ll run out of hot water to cater to everyone’s needs. That’s pretty easy to explain especially when people are taking a bath at the same time. So before you panic, let the tank warm enough water up. We know it’s a test of patience but as the saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.”

2. If no one slept over or if you don’t have guests at the moment but there’s still no hot water coming out of your faucets, you must have your tank inspected. It’s possible that its capacity is no longer enough for your household. Maybe your demands increased. Maybe your kids are just enjoying their time in the shower. To ensure that your unit is properly sized, consult a licensed plumber who can calculate the appropriate water heater tank capacity for you.

3. Of course, there are cases when there’s really an actual problem with the heating system. If you have a gas water heater, the pilot light must be checked. If it has gone out, then you just need to relight it. To do so, turn the gas regulator off and leave it like that for a few minutes. After that, turn the unit to pilot setting. Light up the pilot with the use of a long lighter or just by pressing on the ignition button. Hold the ignition button down for about 1 minute then turn the gas regulator back on again.

4. Now if you have an electric water heater, you must first check the breaker or the fuse that supplies power to the heating system. It’s possible that the circuit breaker has been tripped or that there’s a blown fuse. If the circuit breaker and the fuse are both okay, just call your licensed neighborhood plumber and let him diagnose the water heater for you.
